SMART Goniometer

Physical therapists (PT) currently have to trade-off time to assess (measure and manually record) versus treat. The one-step PT smart goniometer automatically updates the patient's electronic documentation, eliminating time-consuming steps.

The project started in a CMU class. Team members included Manish Sharma, Swathi Veeraragh, Peeyush Goyal, Samrat Sarova, Mesra Yannier, Indu Ancha, and I. Later Manish, Parshad Patel, and I took the idea further and become co-founders of Occura System. We presented to investors and received initial funding in 2013-2014 Trill Mill's (early-stage startups incubator) Business Bout in Pittsburgh, PA. For the project, I did the mechanical design (CAD and prototypes), led user research, and contributed other areas shown.

Problem: Physical therapists (PT) currently have to trade-off quality time to assess versus treat the patients range of motion. A typical session with a PT up to 30% can go into taking and  recording measurements.

Solution: Smart Goniometer paired with physical therapy patient diagnostic software automatically updates the measurements from the goniometer into the database eliminating time consuming the manual data recoarding steps.
